Primary

The educational project

The primary school welcomes children aged between six and eleven. Carrying on from pre-primary school, primary classes are taught in two languages. The teaching covers essential language learning, maths and science, and aims to develop independence, structured thought, creativity, logical reasoning and a love of reading. Music, religious education, art and physical education classes are taught by separate teachers who are qualified in their respective field.

Language immersion

Immersion learning promotes a high level of knowledge and motivation for the language taught (Dutch or English), a cultural richness and a better ability to listen and understand.

The school has set the different levels of exposure to the thought language based on the specific needs related to the age of the children.

A rich academic programme

The school selects the programmes taught and the methods used with utmost care. It ensures high-quality, rigorous and well-structured content.

The methods for learning to read are well thought out and adapted to each language.

Reading and poetry play a crucial role and serve as a basis for the development of general knowledge. In maths, the school uses a rigorous and well-structured method.

Teachers infuse their classrooms with joy and adapt to the pupils. Additional support is provided to any pupil who require it.

Music and art are also part of the programme and enrich the children’s culture, while developing their creativity. Pupils also have physical education classes.

Being attentive to each pupil

Upon enrolment, Agnes School creates a partnership with parents to help children grow and thrive. This translates into regular contact between the school and parents, and the organisation of meetings and training sessions on topics related to parenthood, customised follow-up of pupils by their teachers, coaching to enable them get to know themselves better and achieve their goals, and a joint commitment between the school and the parents to pass on shared values.

In summary, the school not only focuses on the pupils’ intellectual development but also on their overall development.

Assessments and certificates

Primary pupils are assessed on a regular basis.

At the end of P6, they all sit for the Certificat d’Etude de Base (CEB, Basic Education Certificate). Pupils in the English section are invited to sit for the Cambridge Certificate and pupils in the Dutch section are invited to take the interdiocesan exams (Centrale Examens).

Most of our pupils leave primary school with a dual diploma.

Faith experienced naturally

The programme includes two hours of Catholic teaching a week, which gives the pupils a deep understanding of the faith. Once a month, as part of these classes, pupils attend catechetical mass, during which the meaning of the different parts and rituals of mass are explained to them.

School days include prayer at the beginning, middle and end of the day, and pupils are welcome to spend time in the chapel in their free time. They also have the opportunity to attend mass and to receive the sacrament of reconciliation several times per week.

The enrolment process is explained in the “Admissions” section. Students may join during the school year.
